Tour des Crepes et des Glaces – Giverny, France

IMG_8446

Welcome to Giverny, France, home of Claude Monet.  This blog is the sixth in a series of posts looking back on our France adventures.  For most of the hotels/B & Bs, sights, and restaurants I attached a link so you can get more information.  Be sure to check out the other blogs in this series Versailles , The Loire ValleyBrittanySt-Malo/Mont St-Michele & Normandy.

Friday, 7/6   Giverny was our last stop on our France tour.  We left Bayeux and headed to Giverny early.  We had reservations at a B & B called, Le Petit Giverny.  The grounds were filled with beautiful gardens and the outdoor eating area was in the middle.  When you walk into the building, you enter an indoor eating area and kitchen with a wood burning stove.  Oh the aroma!  Check in was not until 2pm  and our host quickly pointed us in the direction of Monet’s house and gardens.

Museum of Impressionisms

Our first stop was the museum.  I don’t have pictures inside the museum since most areas were banned from photos.  However, it was interesting looking at all the art.  The pictures below are from the restaurant area where we ate lunch.  The lavender field was just stunning.

Monet’s House

It was very crowded when we visited the house.  I snapped a few shots.  One from his living room and the other two are in his kitchen.  The stove and hanging pans intrigued me.

Monet’s Gardens

In the garden you walk along the perimeter of the flower beds.  Most of the walk ways are roped off.  I suppose with the amount of visitors each day it keeps the gardens from getting trampled.  The paths along the perimeter however,  offer spectacular color.

And of course…the tour wouldn’t be complete without the resident chickens!

My favorite part was Monet’s water garden.  The pond was beautiful with all of the water lilies.  We were able to find a bench to sit on and just look out over the water garden.  It actually felt as though you were immersed in one of his paintings.  I just wish we had more time to spend here.

So there you have it.  Giverny is definitely worth a day trip or an over night stay.  This was perfect since we had to leave very early the next morning to catch our flight back to the United States.

Thank you for reading and if you have any questions about Giverny please let me know.

XOXO   Wendy
