Sun Tea – Natures Finest

Now that the warm weather is upon us, it’s time to break out my gallon size mason jar and make some sun tea.  Today I decided to make Green Tea with fresh mint from my garden.  For one gallon of tea I use 8 tea bags.  I cut a sprig of mint and roughly chopped the leaves to express the oil.  I wrapped the mint in cheese cloth  and tied the tea bags together for easy handling.

I filled the mason jar with filtered water and added the teabags and mint.  I secured the lid and placed the jar out on my patio in full sun.  Sun tea should steep for about 3-5 hours.  I usually go the full 5 hours for the most flavor.  There’s just something very satisfying when you rely on Mother Nature to do the work for you.

Why Green Tea you ask?  In a nut shell….it has proven health benefits and I’m all in when something has added health benefits.

Green tea is the healthiest beverage on the planet.

It is loaded with antioxidants and nutrients that have powerful effects on the body.

These include improved brain function, fat loss, a lower risk of cancer and many other impressive benefits.

Below are 10 health benefits of green tea that are supported by studies.

As you can see, my mason jar has a spigot.  It’s so handy.  I keep the jar in my refrigerator to keep it fresh and cold.  Now when I’m finished working in the garden I can pour myself a nice refreshing glass of sun tea and enjoy it on the patio.
